Why doesn't my browser display web pages created in other languages?
Browsers must be configured for the encoding of the pages you wish to view, most browsers set text encoding from the View menu.
In addition to text encoding, you must also have a font for the language you wish to view. For example, to view Japanese, you could
use the MSGothic or MSMincho fonts supplied with most operating systems and can also be downloaded.
Here is an example of a web page coded in Japanese (JIS)
Location Services
Global Positioning System (GPS)
Many devices such as smartphones have GPS receivers embedded in the hardware.
External GPS receivers can be connected by serial cable or Bluetooth and will send position data in the form of the National Maritime Electronics Association (NMEA) standard sentences.
If applications access a GPS receiver directly, it must be able to parse NMEA sentences to validate and extract the position fix as well as other pertinents information available.
Smartphone Location Services
Most smartphones have the capability to use services available to determine their geographic position
The Google Map API can be used in applications to combine static geographic data and location to provide a robust visual representation of spacial relationships.
